I have decided to start updating my paint collection. Some of the paints I am using are 20 years old and starting to show their age. I also seem to be transporting my paints between work accom and home. So I am going to start getting some fresh paint for my pallet and keep these at home so that I can paint when I want without having to make sure that I have brought the right colours with me.

These are my first purchase. A 16 pack of basic colours for £24.00 (£1.50 per paint). I have used a few paints by vallejo before and like the dropper bottles.

As you can see on the pictures the colour selection is good and all these will be usefull in the future. One thing to note is that these paints had probably been on a shelf for some time and needed some very vigorous shaking to adgitate the pigment from its settled position.

Nice selection.

I used to pick up most of my acrylic paints from wholesalers and art shops. It was some time ago, but I was getting 60ml bottles for about 70p a bottle, which was generally a considerable saving over those from 'the brand that shall not be named'. However, given that I haven't actively painted for some time, I'm sure that they'd all need a considerable shaking before they're used. Having also bought (a few) of 'the brand that shall not be named' paints, I can say that the quality of 'the others' stood up well to comparison. For solid and metallic colours the art shop is the way ahead, but generally the washes from 'the brand that shall not be named' seemed to be better than those from competitors.

Out of interest (and want for a trip down memory lane), I just looked in one of my paint boxes. I found nearly four dozen big pots (59/60ml) in there, from a variety of brands: Grumbacher, Anita's, Folk Art, and Accent (of course, I've no idea of whether any of those brands are still available). On top of that, there were probably a couple of dozen smaller pots and a few tubes too!
